Premasila Bag

» Back to stories

Premasila Bag from the Bhaisadarha region of Odisha.

At times, a little light in the right direction is all that is needed to pull out an entire family from poverty. Premasila Bag was one of the many individuals whose path was enlightened by Jaadu Ginni Ka. Hailing from the Bhaisadarha region of Odisha, Premasila was confined to her home managing household chores and taking care of her children. Her husband is a daily wage worker and often had to work for long hours that was affecting his health.

As her children were still quite young, it was not possible for her to look for work elsewhere. The money sent by her husband was just enough to meet the family's financial requirements. Worried about her family’s future, Premasila wanted to do something, but the situations around her made matters worse.

Seeking for answers she joined the financial literacy training sessions of the Jaadu Ginni Ka program that was suggested to her by her sister. She attended the three-day training where she got valuable insights about saving, investing and utilizing government schemes to better manage her money.

Eager to put her newfound knowledge into action, Premasila started to maintain a track of their expenses and create a financial diary. She also was eager to apply for a government scheme and went to her village post office and explored different ways to invest her money safely. Among them, she found the Post Office Mahila Samman Savings Certificate, a special scheme for women like her. With this scheme, she could deposit between Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 just once and wait for only two years to see her investment grow. It sounded just right for what she wanted to achieve.

As Premasila embarked on her investment journey, she did so with renewed hope and confidence. The "Jaadu Ginni Ka" program had not only equipped her with knowledge but had also ignited a spark within her to secure her family's financial future. She knew that this was just the beginning of a brighter tomorrow, made possible by Vodafone Idea Foundation and Learning Links Foundation.
